Jesse Mccartney - Mccartney Denies Online Dating

LATEST: U.S. teen pop sensation JESSE MCCARTNEY has denied he is looking for love online - insisting he set up a profile on a dating site for a "joke". The 20-year-old told U.S. magazine In Touch Weekly he had signed up to Jewish dating site JDate.com - even though he isn't Jewish. MCCartney, who recently ended his romance with David Cassidy's daughter Katie, admits he did join the website - but only for amusement and not as a serious way to meet women. He tells America's Us Weekly, "I just wanted to set the record straight and let everyone know that the profile I created on JDate was a joke! "I was hanging' with some friends and we thought that it would be really funny to see peoples' reactions. The hilarity of it all is that until I announced having a profile on the site, nobody believed it was me.

Now playing: The week of Feb. 29

These cut-and-paste comedies are so worn out that they long ago ran out of genre movies to goof on. The latest is a straight "300" parody that is anything but "straight." A C-list cast dons Greek wear and fake six-packs and flops around in front of blue-screen effects. To little effect. "" R. Moore. (PG-13: crude, sexual content throughout; language; some comic violence.) 1 hour, 13 minutes. F

"MICHAEL CLAYTON": As a fixer for a big New York law firm, George Clooney doses the title character's every word and deed with the weighted-down feeling of a man who's drowning. There's a hum of anger to the performance, like the sound of a fluorescent light. Always on. This paranoid thriller is the directing debut of Tony Gilroy, one of Hollywood's top writers, and the surprise is that it's his script "" which sometimes lacks the clammy sense of fear that it's going for "" that lets the movie down.

HEAD OF THE CHARLES '06: The Nicks of Newell

Two people with the same name couldn't appear to be more different. Nick Baker, the captain of the Harvard varsity heavyweights, epitomizes the strong, silent type. Towering at 6'5", 190 pounds, his frame strikes a commanding figure, but his quiet demeanor softens an intimidating presence. Baker's shy personality is balanced out by his lightweight counterpart, 2006-2007 captain Nick Downing. The more talkative of the two captains, Downing is smaller in size at 5'11" and 158 pounds, but his faded British accent and fast-talking nature show he means business. The two captains, however, have more in common than meets the eye. Both Baker and Downing lived in Thayer as freshmen, but they perhaps spent more time together in Newell Boathouse. The two came in as heralded recruits—Downing won a gold medal with the British junior eight at the World Junior Rowing Championships in 2003, and Baker was a member of a Belmont Hill School four that won a national championship in Cincinnati—in the particularly strong class of 2007.

MercyMe ditches covers album for original fare

Most artists generally complete an album, then decide on a title. But MercyMe frontman Bart Millard said the opposite approach was key to "All That Is Within Me," the band's new album.

"I always come up with the album title first and then start writing songs around it," Millard said, noting that the new project -- due November 20 via INO Records -- initially was going to be a covers album of well-known worship songs.

As the band was about to enter the studio, they didn't have any new material written and were in a bit of a panic, Millard said. Then inspiration struck.

The Rules for dating the City of Destiny for Tacoma developers

Think of Tacoma searching for developers to invest in downtown like a single person searching for a date on Match.com. The online dating service allows you to e-mail an electronic "wink" to whomever you might be interested in. But it takes a lot of winks to find one hot prospect willing to go on a date, my single friends tell me. So you can't get overly picky.

But folks from City Hall, the Economic Development Board, the Foss Waterway Development Authority and the Chamber of Commerce have worn out their semi-colon keys over the past decade trying to woo condominiums, hotels, office buildings and name retailers.

You'd have to call Tacoma's wink-and-date record dreary at best. A handful of notable condominium projects, a hotel and one office building have nuzzled up for some urban lovin' in the last seven years.

Storms bring tornadoes to Arkansas

NEW YORK (AP) Rupert Murdoch says his new Fox Business Network will celebrate American corporations and the free markets, but first the network toasted itself at a glamorous party Wednesday night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Nine days after the channel went live, Murdoch welcomed a long list of celebrities and media titans including Mel Brooks, Harvey and Bob Weinstein, Regis Philbin, Bo Derek and Henry Kravis to the museum's Temple of Dendur.

"It's been a brilliant first nine days," Murdoch said. He credited his top lieutenant, Roger Ailes, for the channel's "distinctive" and "informative" look as it takes aim at industry-leading CNBC.

In a thinly veiled dig at the incumbent, Murdoch said the United States is home to "the best-run and most corruption-free companies in the world, not that you'd know it from much of the business coverage we see today."

Murdoch said his channel will still cover scandals that affect investors, "but my hope for Fox Business is that we'll also find time to celebrate the freedom and sense of optimism that free markets have given Americans."

Mitsubishi workers handed lifeline as car plant closes

More than 900 people will lose their jobs when Mitsubishi closes its doors in South Australia at the end of March.

The decision follows years of losses for the company and poor sales of its 380 sedan, caused partly by a sharp rise in the Aussie dollar.

Federal Industry Minister Kim Carr says Mitsubishi workers will receive a $50 million assistance package, to be funded by the state and federal governments and Mitsubishi.

Senator Carr says the package will include up to $10 million for intensive assistance to workers and a $40 million fund to strengthen South Australia's manufacturing base.

Mitsubishi says it also will work with government agencies to provide counselling, job seeking, retraining and other support services.

The company's chief executive officer Rob McEniry says the decision to close the plant is "heartbreaking" but he believes the company has explored every possible option to keep it running.

A leap of love

LONG BEACH - For David Lane, it was an act of romantic desperation.

It was 1979 and he was asking Evelena, the woman he had been dating for a year, when she wanted to marry him.

She said no when he offered Christmas.

"I thought it was a bit too soon and I wanted to think about it," she said.

When she vetoed his offerings of New Year's Day and Valentine's Day, David got nervous.

"I was just putting out some days," he said. "I didn't want to lose the opportunity."

Then he leaped at one more day: Feb. 29.

"It was just a day," David said of the 366th day that emerges every four years. "I pulled out a date."

Somehow, it clicked. Months later, Evelena, 34, and David, 36, sealed the deal .

Retired tennis player Kim Clijsters gives birth to daughter

BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) -Former U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters gave birth to a daughter on Wednesday, nine months after retiring from tennis.

Clijsters and her husband, American basketball player Brian Lynch, named the baby Jada.

"The parents and the baby are in great shape," spokesman Jeroen Jespers said.

The 24-year-old Clijsters retired in May, saying a string of injuries had led to fatigue, a lack of motivation and a decline in play. She said she wanted to focus on a new life with Lynch, who plays in the Belgian league.

Clijsters was Belgium's first tennis player to reach the No. 1 ranking, holding it for 19 weeks in 2003.

She won her only Grand Slam title at the 2005 U.S. Open, but Clijsters also won the 2002 and 2003 WTA Championships as part of her 34 career singles titles.

Small N.B. city in disbelief after 8 killed in crash

A couple of things here just keep bothering me. First is that for some unknown reason, many people are simply not capable of understanding that to suggest ways of improving safety IS NOT THE SAME THING AS POINTING THE FINGER OF BLAME!!!

Come on people! Why can't you understand that suggesting options A, B and C has nothing to do with saying that any single person is "to blame" for anything.

Clearly many, many of us have been involved in, or certainly know others involved in the same kind of travelling for school activities. We know it is common for teachers and coaches to volunteer - and thank god for those generous people.

But why is is so hard to accept that a professionally trained driver improves safety? Do you even know what driver training entails? Go ask your local Mountie or Ambulance attendent about tactical driving training and see what they tell you.
