INTERNET-based home loan provider Myrate.com.au says it has had a record increase in inquiries since the last of the major banks raised interest rates last week.

Linds Bares All Again

Lindsay Lohan has revealed something that isn't her flesh.

She's gone a little deeper this time...

She's opened up about her recent troubles.

She told Paper magazine: "I am what I am.

"They either want to take a chance or they don't, is how I see it.

"I had a lot going on in my life and that was a way of hiding from it.

"I hadn't seen my dad; I had a lot of work stress because I was constantly working and never took time to stop."

"Everything was go-go-go, and the easiest thing was to run away from it, going out and drinking at night.

"You know, you don't have to think when you let go sometimes."

She added: "But I didn't realise it was getting in the way of my work - what I've worked for my whole life."

That changed, as Linds explained: "There's not really much else to do when you're sitting in a treatment center.

'Barack Hussein Obama' confronted by Muslim smear attacks

I am not voting for Obama and it has absolutely nothing to do with the color of his skin. It has alot to do with Farrakan endorsing him. Real simple folks, Louie F is the biggest racist in the world and I would never vote for anybody he supports or endorses. I think we should have a black woman running the show - say Condi? Or is Condi not black enough or woman enough for our liberal friends.

Kylie's sexy duet upsets Heather

POP Princess Kylie Minogue reduced Paul McCartney's estranged wife Heather Mills to tears after she sang a sexy duet with the former Beatles star on a New Year's Eve television special.

Friends of Mills say she was furious when she saw Minogue "flirting" with her husband and lying on top of a grand piano while singing his solo song, Dance Tonight, alongside Sir Paul.

"She's really mad about the way Paul got close to Kylie," one friend told The Sunday Mirror.

"She reckons he did it on purpose and feels it was a deliberate public dig at her.

"She thinks he's just trying to prove a point, that he's moved on and is comfortable around other women. She was so hurt she burst into tears."

Sir Paul and Kylie were special guests on the BBC2 program, Jool's Holland annual Hootenanny.

Senior Labour figures claim ‘line was crossed’ in criticism of ...

SENIOR LABOUR figures have claimed the party's Scottish leader, Wendy Alexander, is being subjected to a continued "smear campaign".

The Labour MSP, Lord Foulkes, said the line had been crossed from fair public scrutiny to a "concerted attempt" to undermine her integrity and reputation. He said that continued attacks on Alexander devalued the whole of the Scottish political process and undermined the "new politics" which had been hoped for after devolution.

Lord Robertson, a former Nato secretary general, also defended Alexander, specifically over new allegations surrounding how her 2003 election campaign was funded.

Were really sad and upset about whats happening, she said. We have to shut every window in our house in the summer before we can hear the television.

At the request of the Shapiros lawyer, Stephen Potenberg, the brothers declined to comment on the charges or the upcoming trial.

They face a maximum of $500 fines each, and/or possible jail time.

The criminal complaints, filed in Justice Court last August, allege the Shapiro brothers created and allowed a condition that was offensive to the senses and obstructed the free use of property so as to interfere with the comfortable enjoyment of life or property by an entire community or neighborhood, or considerable number of persons.

Edward and Dan Shapiro are blamed for promoting bands to play loud music at night and, after being warned repeatedly, allowing customers to park illegally on East River Road, blocking one lane of traffic, the complaint states.

Manhattan vs. New England: Clam chowder makers square off at the ...

The Super Bowl matchup between New England and New York has played itself out on dinner tables for years.

The contest doesn't involve touchdowns or a halftime show, but it can get pretty contentious, as the two sides go head-to-head over one question: Who can claim the best namesake chowder?

For that matter, who can say with certainty which came first or how it was created? Theories abound; facts are often in dispute.

With milk or cream, pork and potatoes, New England clam chowder is considered to be the national standard, dating back to at least the early 19th century, says cookbook author Brooke Dojny, whose books include "The New England Clam Shack Cookbook."

Clams were abdundant there, as well as in what are now the Maritime Provinces of Canada, and became a base for a hearty soup, according to "The Oxford Companion to Food."

Different regions created different kind of chowder, featuring lobster or subtracting the potatoes, for example, but many were creamy and included clams or fish.

McGreevey barred from hiring new psychiatrist for daughter

Former Gov. James E. McGreevey may not hire an independent psychiatrist to evaluate his 6-year-old daughter prior to his May divorce trial, a Union County family court judge ruled this afternoon.

McGreevey, who separated from his wife, Dina Matos McGreevey, in 2004 after admitting to a gay affair, had sought the psychiatrist to bolster his claim for shared custody of the couple's daughter, Jacqueline. The couple currently has temporary shared custody, but that arrangement could change as a result of this spring's trial. .

Scam alert: E-mail valentines can be more like bad Halloween tricks

Thursday is the day, and the evil cupids are looking to remove your romance or put an arrow right through your pocketbook. The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a warning this week: Don't click on the electronic versions of Valentine's Day cards where an e-mail directs the recipient to click on a link to retrieve the e-card. Once the user clicks on the link, malware is downloaded to the computer and causes it to become infected. Dale's low-tech translation: The greeting is a nasty digital disease that will wreak havoc on your computer. No matter how tempting, don't open that e-card or click that link.Once the 'disease' is in your computer, the machine turns on you like a scorned lover, spitting out spam, stealing your identity and looking for ways to spread the disease to other computers.

Starbucks to close 100 stores, scales back openings

He assumed the role of chief executive, replacing the recently departed Jim Donald.

In addition to scaling back its openings, the company no longer will sell breakfast sandwiches, a move undertaken last year.

In a statement, Schultz said that "by reducing the number of openings, we expect to optimize our resources and potentially reduce cannibalization of our existing stores."

A Starbucks spokeswoman said the firm is not discussing the location or timing of any of the closures.

A Radiant Woman

Yet sending a collection or a novel out to be published is never easy. “I deal with myself as a critic. I always go back to my writing and rework it. For something to go into a newspaper is one thing, publishing work in a book is different. A book has its own aura, its own rituals,” el-Behairy explains.

Getting a publisher to publish her work is another story, but el-Behairy, confident of her talents based on the critical acclaim her works receive, believes she has been marginalized. “It is often female writers who work in the media who get the most attention,” she points out. El-Behairy is not alone in this. “There is a whole group of us female writers who have been marginalized. We work in jobs that have nothing to do with culture. We were not included in the Maktabet el-Osra project, were not invited to seminars, and our work was published by the most [obscure] of publishing organizations.

Steve and Mia: Her sexenomics supply doesn't = his demand

Steve is a 50-something married man who's been around the block. Mia is a 20-something single immersed in the Center City dating scene. They may not agree, but they have plenty of answers. If you'd like an answer to your romantic troubles, e-mail them at S&M@phillynews.com or write: S&M c/o Daily News, Box 7788, Philadelphia, PA 19101.

Q: I am in my late 30s and have been married for more than 10 years. My wife and I are very Catholic and do not use birth control; we use the rhythm method. That translates into me having to go more than a week without sex. I tend to have nocturnal emissions (wet dreams) when I am deprived of sex. Is it normal for somebody in my age bracket to still have wet dreams? Could it be some medical issue?

Steve: Yes and no. Sex researcher Alfred Kinsey found nocturnal emissions common among men well into their 50s and even in some patients in their 80s.
