Vumber Launches Virtual Phone Number Service on Paltalk.com

NEW YORK, Feb. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Vumber (www.vumber.com), the secure, two-way disposable calling service, today announced a new partnership with Paltalk (www.paltalk.com), the leading real-time, video-based community with over 4 million active members, to provide privacy-ensured virtual phone numbers to its user base.

"Online dating and chat groups continue to be a fast growing trend, yet some participants are reluctant to share their personal phone numbers online," said Vumber Co-Founder Cliff Wener. "With Vumber, Paltalk members will have more privacy, control and freedom when providing phone numbers to one another."

According to a study by Pew Internet and American Life Project, 11% of all American Internet-using adults - about 16 million people - say they have gone to an online dating website or other site where they can meet people online.

County's bumpy electronic voting history

Critics question whether some people were prevented from voting because they couldn't wait. May 2004: California Secretary of State Kevin Shelley bans San Diego County's machines - and touch-screen voting systems around the state - from the November elections because of "widespread and deeply disturbing problems" that had shaken voter confidence. Shelley also requires machines to build in printers to create paper trails. San Diego County moves to paper ballots. July 2005: New Secretary of State Bruce McPherson rejects Diebold's certification attempt, says machines jam and freeze up too often. February 2006: McPherson certifies machines for use. June 2006: County successfully uses machines in limited fashion, one per polling place for disabled voters. July 2006: Protesters, including the local head of the Democratic Party, calls for an investigation, saying they distrust electronic voting machines and how the county used them.

FACEOFF: Is the NFL combine overrated?

The fact is, nowadays, athletes are bigger, faster and stronger than they have ever been. Their raw numbers may be enticing because they have never been seen before, but thats just a product of the sporting era in which we live.

There are things that coaches simply cannot teach that are more important than speed or power: determination, heart and instincts come to mind. Maybe one day people will realize that, but it seems more doubtful by the day.

Maher: Why Didn’t Rush Die from Drugs Instead of Heath Ledger?

After all, just imagine despising a radio talk show host so much that you would suggest, on national television, that he should die of a drug overdose.

Alas, such was the case Friday evening when HBO's Bill Maher actually asked guest P.J. O'Rourke, who was talking about Rush Limbaugh's use of the prescription drug OxyContin (disgusting question after the jump):

Baxter last month announced the voluntary recall of nine lots of multi-dose vials after learning of adverse events in dialysis patients, but the details of the outbreak were not disclosed until the CDC released the information.

Doctor Alex Kallen , part of the CDC team looking into the illness, said the heparin has been tested for bacteria and endotoxin, but neither was found.

Kidney patients receive heparin to prevent clotting of blood during the dialysis process. CDC officials said allergic-type reactions occurred within minutes of starting dialysis.

The symptoms included facial swelling, nausea, rapid heart beat and decreased blood pressure. Baxter officials said when announcing the recall that some of these reactions may be severe or life threatening.

Hank and Tex in the house

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. — A couple of decent sluggers rolled into Braves spring training today, Mark Teixeira and an older fella named Hank.

Tex and the Hammer at Dark Star. Things are picking up.

Hank Aaron was here with the rest of the Braves executives for annual meetings they have at the start of spring training. Sure, they could have them in Atlanta, but abundant sunshine, golf and private jets make this quick trip south a pretty attractive option for a meeting space.

Teixeira is signing autographs as I write this, as about half of the fans in attendance at this morning workout scrambled for a place in line next to the dugout as soon as they saw the first baseman emerge.

Anyway, there's no update whatsoever on a possible Teixeira contract extension.

Georgia Police Question Witnesses in Killing of Two Officers

He said investigators know there are witnesses to the killings and "we want them to come forward."

The chief held up photographs of Bryant, a two-year veteran of the department, and Barker, who worked there for four years. Both are married with four children, he said.

"Bottom line: We lost two police officers for nothing," the chief said at the Wednesday afternoon press conference. "They clearly didn't have the advantage, or we wouldn't be here. Obviously something terrible happened."

Earlier Wednesday, Bolton had a message for the gunmen: "If I were you, I'd turn myself in. The sun's coming up. Before sundown, we're gonna find you."

But as the day wore on, Williams said she didn't know when the murder suspects would be caught.

"I can't judge when we're going to make an arrest," she told FOXNews.com.

105064 - aka Fred Wolf Holocaust Survivor

Calia Mintzer, 30-year resident of Culver City, and a young 83, went to an over-50 mix-and-meet singles dance four years ago at the Culver City Senior Center, an event that she regularly attended on Saturdays for dancing and enjoyment. That night she was sitting in an area of the dance hall designated for women who are available for dancing, but got tired of waiting and decided to seek out a man, since "men, at that age, are typically shy when it comes to asking a woman to dance."

Manfred (Fred) Wolf, 82, was the man she asked to dance, a newcomer to this particular mix-and-meet. He usually attended the Felicia Mahood Center mixer, but decided to have a change of scenery that night. While dancing, Wolf saw the Chai (letter from the Hebrew alphabet meaning "life," that serves as a reminder that life is G-d-given and sacred) on her necklace and exclaimed, "You're Jewish?!" She said, "Yes, and I advertise the fact."

Mintzer then noticed the number "105064" tattooed on his left forearm and said, "Oh my G-d, are you a "Holocaust survivor?!" and he said, "Yes, I am." Wolf then proceeded to tell her about some of his experiences in the concentration camps.

Our Decrepit Food Factories

The Bar Harbor and Atlantic breweries in Maine, and many in between. All smaller towns. The second oldest family-owned brewery in the US, for instance, is in a smaller town (Schells in New Ulm, MN). In any case, about $100-400 in equipment and some space and you can brew your own. I've got a gallon of hard cider in the works right now.

Each of us should be able to pick the place that suits his/her inclination. Those who need the city should be able to afford to live there and earn equity (even if it's just a condo), rather than remain as landless renters, with nothing to pass to their children. Those who need the countryside, a pastoral backdrop, nature, wilderness, small plot of land to garden, the serenity, quietitude, etc. should be able to afford that as well, even if it's just a 5 acre micro-farm.

'Big Brother 9' reveals 'love match' pairings, pre-existing ...

Big Brother 9's premiere broadcast began with host Julie Chen explaining that an "unexpected wrinkle" was awaiting four of the 16 houseguests -- a move that continues a five-year trend in which at least two members of each season's Big Brother cast are related or already have some other form of pre-existing relationship (romantic, formerly romantic or otherwise) with each other. Sharon Obermueller, a 23-year-old realtor from Olathe, KS, and Jacob Heald, a 23-year-old electrician from Dallas, GA, had recently ended a romantic relationship that had been "on and off" for 12 years, despite the fact Sharon said they were "madly in love" with each other and Jacob commented it had "potential to go the distance." .

More on the Front Running Class Action Suit

Several people pointed out that although the suit still hasn't appeared in PACER, copies of the complaint are available online, including this one [PDF] at Lextext. Having read it, I'm rather underwhelmed.

After the usual lengthy enumeration of alleged misdeeds, the complaint charges Network Solutions (NSI) with fraudulent concealment, and unjust enrichment, while charging ICANN with aiding and abetting fraudulent concealment.

I do not purport to be a lawyer (nor do I usually play one on the net), but it's hard to see how the facts, which are not in serious dispute, would support any of these charges. Fraudulent concealment generally involves hiding important information when entering into a contract, e.g., not mentioning your three prior heart attacks when you get life insurance.
