Last updated February 21, 2008 4:53 a.m. PT Paparazzi arrested in West Hollywood By SOLVEJ SCHOU ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER View related video LOS ANGELES -- Sheriff's deputies arrested two cameramen photographing Britney Spears at a hair salon and two other photographers outside a trendy nightclub in a crackdown that follows a year of frenzied paparazzi swarms around the troubled pop star and other celebrities. All four men were arrested for misdemeanor violations of obstructing a public walkway and released with citations, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said Wednesday. Photographers David Tonnessen and Christian Shostoe were arrested around 7:50 p.m. Tuesday in front of West Hollywood's B2V Hair Salon, where 50 paparazzi tried to get shots of Spears, Whitmore said.
County boundaries altered near Dos Palos
Effective Jan. 1, Merced County is six-and-a-half square miles bigger. Officials from both Merced and Fresno counties gathered Monday to celebrate the first change in Merced County's boundaries since 1887. The boundary shift, which took effect at midnight on Tuesday, moves just more than 4,000 acres near Dos Palos from Fresno County into Merced County. The push to change the county line came after residents in the area raised concerns about waiting hours for Fresno County fire and police crews to respond to the largely rural area. Some Fresno crews come as far as 40 miles to respond to emergencies there, while Merced County crews are stationed just over the county line. Officials in both jurisdictions agreed years ago that moving the line to allow Merced personnel to respond makes sense.
After four years, boyfriend still can't share his feelings
EDITOR'S NOTE: Adapted from a recent online discussion. Dear Carolyn: My boyfriend of four years and I have reached the "break up or get married point," and I think counseling could be helpful. He is resistant to couples counseling, has a variety of reasons he is resisting, but I think his real issue is that sitting in a room with a stranger and talking about "feelings" skeeves him out. Any suggestions for coaxing him into a session, or should I just give up the idea? -- Therapy Dear Therapy: Or, Door No. 3, ask yourself what his refusal says about him, and apply that to the way you want to live your life. The point of therapy is twofold: to get stuff out in the open, and to make sense of that stuff. You've just been handed a solid truth about your boyfriend, free of charge.

But I find it ironic that the really stupid people seem to think the rest of us are. Should Indiana bring back Bob Knight? NEW DAWG: Hell, no. He quit on his kids at Tech. If he showed up at Indiana, that would just be a slap in the face to the people who helped salvage his career. BUCK: I disagree. I would tell The General to go back to Indiana (if theyll have you) and keep the sideshow going. Hes only 67. Bob Knight has become a caricature of himself. He has 902 wins.....and Hoosier fans know from whence most of those came. Who has a better chance of getting into the Hall of Fame: Roger Clemens or Andy Pettitte? NEW DAWG: Clemens. At least he has the credentials. BUCK: Neither one: hows that? Why should they after what Pettitte described in his Feb.

Prolific offender jailed for homophobic arson attack
A heartless youth with two antisocial behaviour orders under his belt has been jailed for 10 years after setting fire to a gay couple's home as they slept. Sonny Lockwood, 20, targeted his victims, Nicholas Hughes and Peter Cameron at their home in North Downs Crescent, New Addington, in retaliation to the pair testifying against him at an earlier Asbo hearing. He denied the charges of arson with intent to endanger life. However, a jury found him guilty of two counts of arson at Croydon Crown Court last September and he was sentenced by Judge MacRae yesterday. Nicholas Hughes awoke in the early hours of the January 23, 2006, to find the hallway of his home in North Downs Crescent alight. Petrol was poured through the letterbox of Mr Hughes' home while he and his partner Peter Cameron were asleep in their upstairs bedroom.

Romney gets aggressive with Republican rivals
Just some of the highlights: Opposed the 1957 Civil Rights Acts. Used this as a wedge issue against Nixon! to help capture the "solid South" in the 1960 election. Did absolutely nothing for civil rights in his first year of office. Encouraged, told or instructed Robert Kennedy to sic Adam Clayton Powell on Martin Luther King, threatening to expose an imaginary sexual scandal with Bayard Rustin, MLK's black gay top lieutenant, to prevent a march in Los Angeles. Opposed the 1963 March on Washington. Refused to deploy troops to protect the Freedom Riders. Ignored the Albany, Georgia bus station riot. So many more lost opportunities to choose from…. In the early 1960s, obviously, JFK's attention was diverted to Cuba, Berlin, Vietnam, and, increasingly, Marilyn Monroe and other actresses.

Rudd prepares to unveil ministry
PRIME Minister-elect Kevin Rudd will unveil his first ministry tomorrow and denies he is under any pressure from Labor factions over the line-up. Mr Rudd is expected to start ringing MPs later tonight to tell them whether they have made the 30-seat front bench. Nervous frontbenchers attended factional meetings tonight, joking about their chances of keeping their positions. Mr Rudd – the first Labor leader in a century to be given the authority to choose his own front bench on merit, rather than factional allegiance – will announce his ministry at a meeting of Labor MPs in Parliament House tomorrow morning. "I was very upfront about this during the election campaign with my colleagues," Mr Rudd said to the Seven Network.
